Scheepjes CAL 2016 Last Dance on the Beach

De Scheepjes CAL 2016 Last Dance on the Beach trok mijn oog met een aankondigingen op Facebook. Ik heb een tijd getwijfeld of ik mee zou doen omdat het weer een project aan mijn lijstje toevoegt. Toch maar besloten het pakket van Dance in the Sea te bestellen, vanwege het verhaal van Wink en super om al die steken te leren met als resultaat een mooie deken.

The Scheepjes CAL 2016 Last Dance on the Beach caught my eye with the annouchements on Facebook. I wasn't sure if I wanted to participate because it would add yet another project to my list. In the end I decided to order the package of Dance in the Sea. Because of the story of Wink and great to learn al these new techniques with a great blanket as result.

Flower apron

 

Ik blogde laatst al over het kindershort met groenten dat ik maakte . Bij nader inzien bleek dat een leercurve. Het was toch wat aan de grote kant en het klittenband bij de nek ook niet zo handig. Daarom besloot ik dit patroon te gebruiken voor een tweede poging voor een lief klein meisje dat graag koekjes bakt met haar moeder. Voor haar verjaardag maakte ik dus ook een schort maar dan in meidenkleuren natuurlijk. Ik gebruikte deze stof van IKEA.

I blogged about the vegetable childrens apron some other time. I learned from that apron. It was a little large and the velcro on the neck weren't as usefull as I thought. That’s why I decided to use this pattern for a second attempt for a cute little girl that likes to bake cookies with mom. For her birthday I made an apron but with girly colours of course. I used some fabric from IKEA.

Het was mijn eerste keer dat ik een stoffen tunneltje draaide. Na prutsen met een veiligheidsspeld had ik zere handen maar was mijn tunneltje wel gedraaid. Het tweede tunneltje ging een stuk sneller met dit (engelse) filmpje van Youtube.

It was my first time turning a fabric tube. After some fidgeting with an safety pin I had sore hands but my tube was turned. The second tube went a lot faster with this youtube tutorial.

Dit is het resultaat. De kleine dame snapte gelijk wat de bedoeling was en begon haar moeder om koekjesdeeg te vragen.

This is the result. The little lady understood it right away and started to ask her mom for cookie dough.

Ik heb nog aardig wat stof over en denk erover om een grote versie voor mezelf te maken :D

Idea for cheap fabric

Ik ben nog steeds volop aan het oefenen op mijn 'naaiskills' maar ik wil aan mijn oefen projecten niet te veel geld uitgeven. Daarom fietste ik vorig jaar een keer naar de kringloop bij ons in de buurt. Ik was op zoek naar kleding om te vermaken of op te leuken maar ook naar stukken stof die ik kon hergebruiken. Wij wonen in een vinex-wijk waar veel tweeverdieners wonen. Er wordt dus veel bruikbaars afgedankt. Maar de andere kant is dat de prijzen van sommige kledingstukken aan de hoge kant zijn. Te hoog om het zonder plan te kopen en verknippen. Uiteindelijk slaagde ik wel en toog naar huis met een fietstas vol stoffen. Ik vond onder andere:

• Een effen wit en een bedrukt dekbed overtrek met auto'tjes
• Een roze mannen overhemd met weinig taillering.
• Een blouse waarvan ik dacht dat hij redelijk rechtoe-rechtaan was en dus redelijk veel bruikbare stof maar die later toch wat getailleerd bleek.

Na een wasbeurt bleken deze items er nog prima uit te zien dus gingen ze op de stapel. Van de dekbedovertrekken heb ik inmiddels al wat stukken gebruikt. De kledingstukken liggen nog te wachten tot zich een goed idee of project meld.

I'm still practicing my sewing skills and don't want to spend too much on fabric for my practice projects. That's why I got on my bike (yes, I'm Dutch) to the nearest goodwill. I was searching for clothes to refashion or large pieces of practice fabric. We live in a suburb with a lot of wealthy people. That means a lot of the donated stuff is high quality but they also know what to charge. Sometimes to much to buy things without a plan. I did score some nice things and went home with a bag full of fabric. what I found:

• a white duvet cover and a printed cover with cars
• a pink mens' shirt that wasn't slim fit
• a blouse with a nice print but wrinkly fabric

After a round in the washing machine all the items looked fine so they went into my stash. I used part of both duvet covers, the other items are still waiting for a plan.

Craft for four seasons: Snowman

Deze keer een knutsel-editie van het haken voor vier seizoenen. Ik kreeg voor Kerst een pompom-maker en wilde die gelijk uitproberen. Ik wilde ook nog wat winterse decoratie dus bedacht dat een sneeuwpop wel leuk zou zijn. Dat is eigenlijk heel snel gemaakt. Ik had nog wat witte acryl liggen en maakte daarmee vier pompoms, twee grote vormde samen één hele grote bol en twee iets kleinere vormden samen een kleinere bol. Deze maakte ik aan elkaar, ik plakte er wiebeloogjes op en stukjes vilt als knopen en de neus en tadah daar was de sneeuwpop al.

A craft edition of the crochet for four seasons this time. I got a pompom maker for christmas that I wanted to try right away. I also wanted some wintery decoration so thought a snowman would be nice. A really quick make actually! I still had some acrilyc yarn and made four pompomps. Two big ones made one really large pompom and two slightly smaller ones made a smaller pompom. I tied these toghether, glued eyes and some felt for the nose and buttons on. And there he was, mr. Snowman.

Crochet Rainbow Blanket

Ergens afgelopen zomer geleden kocht ik het tijdschrift simply Haken. Ik vind het altijd leuk om tijdschriften te lezen op van die loze momentjes ter ontspanning. Ik koop ze vooral ter inspiratie en niet zozeer voor de patronen. Ik zag in het tijdschrift een regenboogdeken die me erg mooi leek. Er stond een specifieke soort garen genoemd maar ik besloot zoiets te gaan maken van Stylecraft special DK.

Sometime last summer I bought the magazine Simply Crochet (Dutch edition). I always like reading magazines during relaxing moments. I buy them for inspiration and not especially for the patterns. In this edition I found a rainbow granny blanket that appealed to me. A specific brand of yarn was mentioned but I decided to go for Stylecraft special DK.

 

Ik zocht een tijd naar de juiste tint regenboog. Stylecraft heeft erg veel kleuren, een voordeel maar ook een nadeel. Sommige iets te fel voor mijn smaak. Ik wilde een vintage regenboog. Ik vond bij the Patchwork Heart een aantal kleuren recepten zoals zij dat zo mooi noemt. Op basis van de informatie die ik daar vond heb ik 11 kleuren uitgekozen en begon met granny squares haken. Ik koos voor een rand met mocha (lichtbruin) want ik vond wit of creme te veel afsteken in het tijdschrift.

I looked for the right rainbow colours quite some time. Stylecraft has a lot of colours. Some are a little to bright for my taste. I wanted a more vintage feel to the rainbow. I found colour recipes colour recipes at the Patchwork Heart. On basis of those I chose 11 colours and started making granny squares. I chose mocha for the blanket because I didn't like the contrast with white or cream like in the magazine.

Ik haakte op elk onbewaakt ogenblik. De vierkantjes zijn snel gemaakt dus ik had al snel hele stapels.

I crocheted every moment I could. The squares go very fast so I soon had piles of them.

Toen ik een aantal rijen vierkantjes had begon ik met aan elkaar maken. Ik begon met een join-as-you-go methode per vierkantje. Dat schoot niet op, ik bleef eindjes wegwerken voor mijn gevoel. Dus ik zocht naar andere manieren en vond de continue join-as-you-go methode. Dat ging een stuk sneller en vanaf toen wisselde ik af tussen vierkantjes en het aan elkaar maken.

When I had a couple of rows of granny's I started joining them. I started with a join-as-you-go methode for each square. But I was making slow progress with a thousand ends to sew in. So I searched for other ways to join and found the continous join-as-you-go method. I liked that way much better and then I started working on both the squares and joining.

Al snel werd het een lekker dekentje die mijn benen warm hield tijdens het haken.

Soon this became a blanket to keep my legs warm during my crochet work.

 

Toen alles aan elkaar zat, 16 x 11 = 176 vierkanten, heb ik nog een rand met granny clusters gehaakt in mocha volgens deze methode. Daarna was mijn inspiratie even op wat de echte rand moest worden. Ik heb de deken toen een tijdje weggelegd. De deken was op zichzelf al kleurrijk genoeg dus de rand moest rustig blijven. Uiteindelijk heb ik de rand afgewerkt met twee rijen stokjes in donkerbruin (Walnut) en een rand vasten in mocha gevolgd door een rij in de krabsteek.

After I joined all my squares (16 x 11 = 176 squares), I made an extra round with granny clusters in mocha using this method.  After that I lost my inspiration for the real edge. The blanket was put away while I thought about the edge. All the colours asked for a neutral edge. I decided to do two rounds of double crochet (UK) in a dark brown (Walnut), a round of single crochet in mocha followed by a round of crab stitch.

Welcome in 2016!

Welkom in 2016! Het was voor mij een drukke december maand en een drukke start van januari. Met te weinig tijd voor nieuwe verhaaltje voor op mijn blog. Hopelijk gaat het vanaf nu lukken om wat regelmatiger te posten. De kerstspullen zijn opgeruimd op zolder en in de kerstvakantie heb ik aardig wat inspiratie opgedaan voor nieuwe projecten. Ik zal daar de komende tijd over schrijven.

Welcome in 2016! December was a busy month and january started equally busy for me. I had too little time for new stories on my blog.  I hope to post something more regurarly from now on. The christmas decorations are back in the attic and during the christmas break I had some great inspiration for new projects. I will write about those in the coming months. 

Voor de kerst heb ik het idee opgedaan om voor ons 2-persoonsbed een sprei te gaan haken. Een behoorlijke klus dus het zal even duren voordat het af is. De keus voor zo'n groot project valt al snel op Stylecraft special DK, in veel kleuren verkrijgbaar, wasbaar en een redelijke prijs. Ik probeerde eerst een stukje uit om te kijken of de kleurstelling me beviel.

Before christmas I had the idea to crochet a bedspread for our double bed. A giant project so it will take some time to finish that. My standard choice for such a large project is Stylecraft special DK which has a lot of colours, can be washed and is reasonably priced. I tried a small sample to see if I liked the colours I chose.

Daarna begon ik de juiste breedte te maken van het granny stripe patroon. De witte wol was niet op voorraad bij mijn lokale wolwinkel dus ik bestelde een grote hoeveelheid ineens bij wolplein, een goede reden om ook mijn voorraad katoen aan te vullen.

After the test sample I started my  project with a very long starting chain for the granny stripe pattern. The white skeins were not in stock with my local yarn store so I ordered a large amount on wolplein, a great reason to add to my supply of cotton.

Tijdens een tripje naar de Ikea ontdekte ik erg leuke stofjes. Inspiratie voor een project kwam bij me op dus ik kocht twee lapjes en hield me verder in. Wat ik daarmee ga maken ontdek je binnenkort!

During a trip to Ikea I discovered some nice fabrics. I immediately had some inspiration for a projects so I bought two pieces of fabric. I restrained myself to buy some more. What my project is you will discover soon enough.

Verder kreeg ik leuke cadeau's van de kerstman.

I also received some great gifts from Santa this year.

• Een supermooie bol unikat, deze ga ik gebruiken voor een project voor mezelf.

• Pompom makers, deze probeerde ik gelijk uit.
