Yet another babyblanket

De babyboom die afgelopen najaar in mijn omgeving aangekondigd werd is op dit moment in volle gang. Voor een vriendin wilde ik ook wat maken. Ik informeerde daarom naar de wensen en eventueel kleuren van de babykamer. Als reactie kreeg ik een foto van de kleurenwaaiers ter inspiratie opgestuurd, roze en turquoise/mint-groen. Daar kon ik wel wat mee dus ik ging op zoek op pinterest naar mooie combinaties. Die leiden uiteindelijk tot dit kleurenschema in Stylecraft.

The babyboom that was foreseen last fall is in full boom at the moment. For a friend I decided to make a gift. I informed her of my plans and asked about her ideas and potential colours for the nursery. In response I got a photo of the colourwheels in pink and turqouise and mint green. I soon took this to Pinterest for inspiration and that lead me to this stylecraft colour combination.

Het patroon had ik al een keer eerder online gezien en leek me leuk om te maken. Ik zag het patroon als resultaat bij haar blog. De plaatselijke wolwinkel had alle kleuren die ik had uitgezocht liggen dus ik kon snel aan de slag.

I noticed the pattern online and stored it for future reference. I saw the results at her blog. The local yarn shop had all the colours I needed so I quickly went to work.

Ik besloot de grijze draad steeds mee te nemen naar de volgende toer, dat scheelde heel wat eindjes wegwerken. Als rand haakte ik er een toer grijs, roze en grijs in granietsteek. Dat geeft een leuk stipjes effect.

I decided to carry the grey yarn for each row, that saved me a ton of yarn ends to weave in. For the border I decided on rows of grey, pink and grey in moss stitch. That made a nice dotted edge.

Ik ben heel tevreden met het resultaat. De kraamvrouw was erg blij met het cadeau. Het zal snel gebruikt worden als het kleine meisje met haar trotse ouders naar buiten gaat.

I am very pleased with the result. The new mother was very happy with the gift. It will soon be used when the little girl will go outside with her parents.

Tadah baby boy blanket

Ik ben een hele tijd weg geweest van m'n blog. Geen tijd voor, druk op het werk, niet veel te laten zien. Veel excuses. Maar ik ga proberen hier weer regelmatig wat neer te zetten.

Mijn zusje is zwanger van een jongetje. Ik maakte voor hen een dekentje. Ik bestelde er al in februari katoen voor. Ik liet het katoen aan jullie zien in deze post maar het resultaat wilde ik nog een verassing houden. Nu is de babyshower geweest en kan hem eindelijk aan jullie laten zien.

I was away from the blog for a while. No time, busy at work, not much to show. Lots of excuses. I will try and show up here more often. 

My sister is pregnant with a little boy. I made a blanket for them. I ordered the yarn in februari and showed you the cotton in this post. The result had to be a surprise so after the babyshower I can finally show you the result.

Ik gebruikte voor het eerst een betaald patroon. Meestal vind ik op internet genoeg gratis inspiratie maar ik gun het degene die gratis patronen aanbieden ook om wat te verdienen aan al het werk wat ze er in stoppen. Daarnaast wilde ik niet zelf gaan zitten 'pielen'.

Voor een klein baby'tje schijn je beter natuurlijke materialen te kunnen gebruiken dus kwam ik op katoen uit. Ik gebruikte de aangeraden katoen uit het patroon: Rico creative Cotton Aran. 100% katoen en heerlijk zacht en redelijk dik dus het geeft een stoer resultaat.

I used a paid pattern for the first time. I normally find a lot of free inspiration on the internet though I think that the people who offer free patterns deserve some credit for al the hours they put into that. Also I didn't want to figure this pattern out myself so I bought it.

For a newborn you are supposed to use natural materials so I went with cotton. Actually the cotton from the pattern: Rico creative cotton aran. 100%  cotton, nice and soft and a true aran cotton that gives a 'though' result.

Het patroon was goed te volgen en uiteindelijk erg makkelijk met vooral stokjes met af en toe losse voor het opengewerkte deel. Daarom haakte het erg snel, ik had het binnen no time af. Ik vind het resultaat uiteindelijk erg goed gelukt. Ik hoop dan ook dat 'Ukkie' er lekker onder zal slapen en zijn ouders niet te veel wakker zal houden.

The pattern was easy to follow and a quick make because of the double crochet. I finished really quickly. I love the result and hope that 'Ukkie' will sleep nice and sound underneath it and doesn't keep his parents awake too much.

Crochet Rainbow Blanket

Ergens afgelopen zomer geleden kocht ik het tijdschrift simply Haken. Ik vind het altijd leuk om tijdschriften te lezen op van die loze momentjes ter ontspanning. Ik koop ze vooral ter inspiratie en niet zozeer voor de patronen. Ik zag in het tijdschrift een regenboogdeken die me erg mooi leek. Er stond een specifieke soort garen genoemd maar ik besloot zoiets te gaan maken van Stylecraft special DK.

Sometime last summer I bought the magazine Simply Crochet (Dutch edition). I always like reading magazines during relaxing moments. I buy them for inspiration and not especially for the patterns. In this edition I found a rainbow granny blanket that appealed to me. A specific brand of yarn was mentioned but I decided to go for Stylecraft special DK.

 

Ik zocht een tijd naar de juiste tint regenboog. Stylecraft heeft erg veel kleuren, een voordeel maar ook een nadeel. Sommige iets te fel voor mijn smaak. Ik wilde een vintage regenboog. Ik vond bij the Patchwork Heart een aantal kleuren recepten zoals zij dat zo mooi noemt. Op basis van de informatie die ik daar vond heb ik 11 kleuren uitgekozen en begon met granny squares haken. Ik koos voor een rand met mocha (lichtbruin) want ik vond wit of creme te veel afsteken in het tijdschrift.

I looked for the right rainbow colours quite some time. Stylecraft has a lot of colours. Some are a little to bright for my taste. I wanted a more vintage feel to the rainbow. I found colour recipes colour recipes at the Patchwork Heart. On basis of those I chose 11 colours and started making granny squares. I chose mocha for the blanket because I didn't like the contrast with white or cream like in the magazine.

Ik haakte op elk onbewaakt ogenblik. De vierkantjes zijn snel gemaakt dus ik had al snel hele stapels.

I crocheted every moment I could. The squares go very fast so I soon had piles of them.

Toen ik een aantal rijen vierkantjes had begon ik met aan elkaar maken. Ik begon met een join-as-you-go methode per vierkantje. Dat schoot niet op, ik bleef eindjes wegwerken voor mijn gevoel. Dus ik zocht naar andere manieren en vond de continue join-as-you-go methode. Dat ging een stuk sneller en vanaf toen wisselde ik af tussen vierkantjes en het aan elkaar maken.

When I had a couple of rows of granny's I started joining them. I started with a join-as-you-go methode for each square. But I was making slow progress with a thousand ends to sew in. So I searched for other ways to join and found the continous join-as-you-go method. I liked that way much better and then I started working on both the squares and joining.

Al snel werd het een lekker dekentje die mijn benen warm hield tijdens het haken.

Soon this became a blanket to keep my legs warm during my crochet work.

 

Toen alles aan elkaar zat, 16 x 11 = 176 vierkanten, heb ik nog een rand met granny clusters gehaakt in mocha volgens deze methode. Daarna was mijn inspiratie even op wat de echte rand moest worden. Ik heb de deken toen een tijdje weggelegd. De deken was op zichzelf al kleurrijk genoeg dus de rand moest rustig blijven. Uiteindelijk heb ik de rand afgewerkt met twee rijen stokjes in donkerbruin (Walnut) en een rand vasten in mocha gevolgd door een rij in de krabsteek.

After I joined all my squares (16 x 11 = 176 squares), I made an extra round with granny clusters in mocha using this method.  After that I lost my inspiration for the real edge. The blanket was put away while I thought about the edge. All the colours asked for a neutral edge. I decided to do two rounds of double crochet (UK) in a dark brown (Walnut), a round of single crochet in mocha followed by a round of crab stitch.

Kraamcadeau

In juli kreeg een vriendin een zoontje. Ik heb lang zitten twijfelen wat ik voor haar zou maken. Uiteindelijk kwam ik dit patroon tegen, simpel maar schattig en met de mogelijkheid om er een subtiel kleurtje aan te geven.

A friend of mine had a baby in July. It took me a long time to think about what to make for her. Untill I discovered this pattern (the original pattern in English (login required)). A simple but cute blanket/cape with the possibility for some colored detail.

 

Het patroon haakte lekker snel weg wat mooi was want door de twijfel was ik vrij kort op de uitgerekende datum pas begonnen. Aangezien ik het wilde geven bij het plaatsen van het geboortebord in de voortuin was het nog spannend of het op tijd af zou zijn.

Het patroon staat beschreven met een heel ander dikte garen dus het was even puzzelen maar het is gelukt. Uiteindelijk is het een dekentje/cape geworden van 85 bij 85 cm van Stylecraft met haaknaald 4. Ik had bijna 6 bollen nodig voor de deken.

Fortunately the pattern was quick to crochet. I started near the due date and wanted to visit quickly after the birth.The dutch pattern was described with a different weight yarn so it took me some time, but it worked out. The blanket measures 85 by 85 cm in Stylecraft yarn with hook 4 mm. I used just under 6 skeins of yarn for the blanket.

Het lichte blauw in de rand van het dekentje paste uiteindelijk goed bij het kamertje. Dus deze kleine jongen kon in stijl slapen :)

The light blue edge was a perfect match to his bedroom. So this little boy slept in style :)
